Direct Detection: Abandoned Mines, Alpine Tunnels, and Nightclubs in Jerusalem

Complementary to the creation of dark matter in accelerators is the detection of astrophysical dark matter particles. These particles traverse the halo of our Galaxy with velocities of about 250 kilometers per second (560,000 miles per hour). Because they do not feel electromagnetic or strong nuclear forces, the experiments to directly detect these particles have to be extremely sensitive to weak interactions, the least powerful of the four forces.
